Welcome to the David & Lorraine Cheng Library

This guide is designed to acclimate students and members of our community to the voting process in the United States and the State of New Jersey. The Cheng Library Civic Literacy Initiative is committed to fostering the growth of knowledge and informed participation in civic society. Please take advantage of all the resources available to help in your voting decisions.

American Democracy Project at WPUNJ

The David & Lorraine Cheng Library is proud to partner with the WPUNJ American Democracy Project! ADP seeks to create intellectual and experiential  civic engagement opportunities for undergraduates  enrolled at public institutions of higher learning. ADP is a project of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU), The New York Times, and the Carnegie Foundation. The goal of the project is to produce graduates who understand and are committed to engaging in meaningful actions as democratic citizens.

The Cheng Library is happy to support the efforts of the American Democracy Project and accept the support of ADP in fostering our Civic Literacy Initiative!

Pod-Talks Programs

The Civic Literacy Initiative unveiled a new program in 2020 entitled Pod-Talks. These interactive programs are designed on a traditional Book Club model, but we replace the "Book" with a freely available Podcast episode. The topics focus on Civic Engagement, Social Justice, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. The Library moderates an active discussion of a selected podcast and incorporates library and external resources to help educate our community. The Library also collaborates with various campus partners in organizing and hosting our Pod-Talk programs.

Some of our Pod-Talks:

Social Justice and the Power of Athletes

In Their Words; The Speeches of MLK and John Lewis

Women in STEM

The Birth of Ethnic Studies

Women in Politics: A Nations Future

Roe v. Wade: The State of Federal Abortion Rights
