Who are LGBTQIA+ Elders?

While the diversity of the LGBTQIA+ community can be a wonderful thing, this diversity can also create challenges for older LGBTQIA+ individuals. LGBTQIA+ Elders, many of whom have fought for the rights that many take for granted today, are often faced with issues that might not affect their straight counterparts. These issues include discrimination (homophobia, ageism or elder abuse), lack of appropriate services and healthcare, economic security, and legal rights at end of life, among others.

National Resource Center on LGBT Aging
