What is a Straight Ally?

It is not only the LGBTQIA+ community that is concerned with the rights of LGBTQIA+ individuals and their families. Allies are straight family, friends, coworkers, and supporters of LGBTQIA+ rights. Welcoming Schools: A Project of the Human Rights Campaign Foundation
"Welcoming Schools offers tools, lessons and resources on embracing family diversity, avoiding gender stereotyping and ending bullying and name-calling in elementary schools." Resources are designed for administrators, educators and parents, although the content could be useful to people of all walks of life.
PFLAG
"Founded in 1972 with the simple act of a mother publicly supporting her gay son, PFLAG is the original ally organization. Made up of parents, families, friends, and straight allies uniting with lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people, PFLAG is committed to advancing equality through its mission of support, education and advocacy."
PFLAG NYC
"Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays of New York City (PFLAG NYC) is the founding chapter of PFLAG, the nation's foremost family-based organization committed to the civil rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people."
TYFA (TransYouth Family Allies)
Provides resources for transgender youth, their families, educators and healthcare providers. Also includes answers to Frequently Asked Questions, a glossary of terms, and extensive advice on coming out as transgender.
Gender Spectrum
"Gender Spectrum provides education, training and support to help create a gender sensitive and inclusive environment for all children and teens."
Mermaids
Mermaids is a UK-based support group of parents and transmen and transwomen whose goal is to support, educate, and alleviate suffering that Gender Identity Issues may cause. Support for both young people and their families seeks to foster understanding and acceptance.
