Compared with the 1920 Census, the 1950 Census contains a less detailed focus on information about immigrants. Following the Immigration Act of 1924 the number of new immigrants fell sharply. Nevertheless, the reports still provide a substantial amount of information about ethnicity.
There is also an excellent and very detailed special report among the 1950 Census publications that deals exclusively with the national origin and race of the population - Volume 4, Special Reports, Part 3, National Origin and Race. It contains detailed tables on the national origins of the populations of large cities, including several in New Jersey.
