Civic Literacy Initiative: About the Civic Literacy Initiative

Civic Literacy Initiative

The David & Lorraine Cheng Library is committed to reaffirming its dedication to support the University’s Core Value of Civic Engagement. The library seeks to strengthen existing partnerships with Campus Activities, Service and Leadership to support the University’s Core Value of Civic Engagement. This will be accomplished through collaborative programming, events and workshops that will be a component of the University’s student centered Civic Engagement Badge program. The Library is also developing new avenues to support the University’s UCC Area 5 academic commitment to civic engagement by cultivating resources and services to support faculty teaching and student learning. These combined efforts will enhance the Library’s role in supporting the University’s Core Value of Civic Engagement and contribute to the broader discourse of academic libraries and civic engagement.

American Democracy Project at WPUNJ

The David & Lorraine Cheng Library is proud to partner with the WPUNJ American Democracy Project! ADP seeks to create intellectual and experiential  civic engagement opportunities for undergraduates  enrolled at public institutions of higher learning. ADP is a project of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU), The New York Times, and the Carnegie Foundation. The goal of the project is to produce graduates who understand and are committed to engaging in meaningful actions as democratic citizens.
