Getting Started
This guide brings together many of our best Music resources, all of which can also be found on the Library website.
The David & Lorraine Cheng Library is an important resource for finding materials to complete your research. We have hundreds of thousands of items (books, media, serials, etc.), including ebooks and streaming video. Our many databases also provide online access to thousands of periodicals (newspapers, magazines, scholarly journals, etc.), as well as streaming audio (Jazz and Classical) and even dissertations and theses.
Another great feature of our Library is the helpful staff who are available to assist with any of your research needs. If you're not sure where to begin, check out the "Need Help?" box to the left, for your options. While I am 'officially' your Music librarian, many of the other librarians can assist with many of your questions.
Feel free to reach out to me if you have any research questions or need additional assistance with anything during your studies.
You may be familiar with bibliographies as the list of references at the end of a research paper. But, bibliographies can also stand alone as lists of resources (usually books/articles) on a selected topic.
Discographies are similar to bibliographies, but their focus is on recordings (LPs, streaming, etc.).
In both cases, it's a good idea to define the scope of your research before starting. This could be based on the type of articles, date range covered, performers involved, etc. Just be sure you're not trying to tackle too much or too little.
Finally, many bibliographies and discographies include annotations for included items. Annotations provide context to readers, and make clear the connection to the scope you've selected.
