Getting Started with LibGuides: An Introduction for Cheng Librarians: Create and Customize Your Profile

A Guide to creating and developing your own research guides for subjects and individual courses using the LibGuides software.

Create and Customize Your Profile

Your first task when logging into your account for the first time should be to create your personal profile, which will accompany all of your Guides. Access to LibGuides and other Springshare products is provided through your personal LibApps account, and it is on the LibApps platform where you can access the "My Profile" link to edit the information that will appear in your Profile Box on LibGuides and also on your Profile Page. Campus-facing Profile Boxes should generally include:

  • Your name
  • Your profile photo (the one on the staff directory is recommended)
  • Your address (office location)
  • Your phone number
  • Your email address (linked)
  • A link to your page on the staff directory

Other optional information may include:

  • Your pronouns
  • Links to your social media accounts
  • Links to your social cataloging accounts
  • The Library H3lp chat widget code, which is:

<!-- Place this div in your web page where you want your chat widget to appear. -->
<div class="needs-js">chat loading...</div>

<!-- Place this script as near to the end of your BODY as possible. -->
<script type="text/javascript">
  (function() {
    var x = document.createElement("script"); x.type = "text/javascript"; x.async = true;
    x.src = (document.location.protocol === "https:" ? "https://" : "http://") + "libraryh3lp.com/js/libraryh3lp.js?17969";
    var y = document.getElementsByTagName("script")[0]; y.parentNode.insertBefore(x, y);
  })();
</script>
