ALAN Review
ALAN Review is a peer reviewed journal about young adult literature. ALAN (Assembly on Literature for Adolescents) is part of the National Council for Teachers of English. There is a two year gap before free access to the journal is made available to non-subscribers.

ALSC: Association for Library Service to Children
Lists current and past winners of the Newbery and Caldecott medals, as well as other notable books and media for children. Also features "700+ Cool Sites for Kids."

Databases

Children's Literature Comprehensive Database
Contains records for over 1 million book titles, as well as full-text reviews for many of those titles. Records often include reading levels (Lexile, Accelerated Reader, etc.) [1761 - present]

Children's Picture Book Database at Miami University
This site offers a database with abstracts of over 5000 children's picture books, accessible by keyword or subject search screens. Especially useful for identifying children's historical fiction books, via the Social Studies/History subject heading links.

Database of Award-Winning Children's Literature
Compiled and indexed by librarian, Lisa R. Bartle, this database can create tailored reading lists of quality children's literature. Indexes over 8000 titles and 91 book awards from English speaking countries.

Diverse BookFinder: Identify and Explore Multicultural Picture Books
Sponsored by Bates College in Lewiston,ME and funded through a federal grant this database tries to identify ALL multicultural picture books published in the U.S. since 2002. Searchable by race-culture, ethnicity, religion, holiday, setting, awards, etc. The website includes selected lists for adoption, multiracial families, and more. Not all books are recommended.

Literature Resource Center
Search by author, title, literary theme, historical period, etc. for full-text biographies and criticism of major children and adult authors. Available to William Paterson community only.
Grades: 9 - 12
Novelist K-8 Plus
Provides subject access for fiction and nonfiction titles aimed at students in grades K-8. Includes full-text reviews for many titles, as well as access to teacher resources for promoting reading,and tips on using picture books as a springboard to interesting and educational activities.
