Getting Started

Every great research project begins with a great topic! Sometimes one will be assigned to you, but more often you'll be asked to come up with something that addresses a certain area of research, and is interesting to you.

It's ok if you start off with a broad idea, like Body Image, Voting Rights, or the Glass Ceiling.  Each of these is too broad to tackle in most research papers, but are a great place to begin when focusing your topic.

At this point, you'll want to start learning about the topic, to see if there are specific aspects about it that you'd like to explore.  For instance, are you looking for a relationship between your topic and something else?  Like, Body Image and the Media?  Is there a specific population of people that you're interested in learning about?  Young adults, a certain minority group, the elderly?

As you explore, you'll have a better idea of where you want to focus your efforts.  This guide will show you some great places to begin!
