LGBTQIA+ Resources: Home

LGBT Defined

"The LGBT community includes individuals of every sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, race, ethnicity, and age; regardless of disability, income, education, and geography."

Everyone's experience is different, and the LGBTQIA+ acronym encompasses a diverse range of people, including those who don't fit neatly into a single category, or choose not to be defined by labels.

In fact, some feel that 'LGBT' is not sufficient.  You may see 'A' (Allies), 'I' (Intersex), or 'Q' (which could mean Queer or Questioning) added to the letters, or even find them rearranged, as with GLBT.  For the purpose of this guide, we will use LGBTQIA+ as an overarching header, but may refer to LGBTQA, LGBTQAI, LGBTQQAI, or any other variation, when used by a selected source.

About This Guide

The LGBTQIA+ community is a diverse group of individuals from many backgrounds and cultures.  While it would be impossible to include everyone’s unique perspective, this guide makes every effort to represent the common threads that those in the LGBTQIA+ community share.

This resource is intended to serve primarily as an educational resource, and will continue to evolve.  Each page contains information on topics, groups and issues affecting the LGBTQIA+ community, and each has been reviewed prior to being added.

It is our goal to be as inclusive as possible, and we know that some may feel left out of the conversation, or not see themselves represented in the information provided here.  If so, PLEASE let us know, and we can work together to find resources that are important to you.
