Welcome back for Fall 2025 semester!
Below, you'll find information to help you and your students to make the most of what the Library has to offer. As your liaison librarians for the College of Education, we're here to assist with anything from requests for new materials to partnering with you to help your students succeed -- even if you're teaching asynchronously!
Feel free to share this with anyone that we've missed, and we look forward to hearing from you!
Have a great Fall 2025 semester!
Neil & Tony

One of the easiest ways to support your students is to make sure that they have access to course materials early in the semester by putting copies of required readings on Course Reserves (learn more).
This lets them hit the ground running when it comes to your assignments and discussions, and can also help ease the financial burden of buying textbooks for multiple courses.
For more information, contact Jill Pruden (prudenj@wpunj.edu or 973-720-3183).

As you finalize your assignments for this semester’s courses, keep in mind how we can partner with you to present students with important information literacy skills to support their success!
Your class may be their first introduction or (equally important) the refresher they need to build and maintain their research skills!
Library instruction:
Schedule your session today with our Instruction Request Form or contact us for more information at instruction@wpunj.edu!
Learn how we can support students in your asynchronous courses!
Asynchronous online classes don’t typically leave time for faculty to schedule an information literacy (IL) session, since there can be no requirement for students to participate in "live" activities. But, student feedback to IL instruction often includes requests for more sessions with librarians, especially before they're expected to demonstrate the ability to formulate research strategies, find credible sources, or cite the research of others.
To help fill this gap, we can work with you to develop optional, skills-based webinars that complement your assignments and give students the opportunity to engage in real time with librarians, ask questions, and gain confidence with library resources and services. For those who are unable to attend, a recording of the lesson will be made available, so that everyone can benefit from the lesson.
Reference and research support is a great supplement to library instruction, and way for struggling students to get assistance. If you are unable to schedule a library instruction session, but students will be using the library for your assignments, please consider sharing the assignment with me ahead of time.
You and your students can also reach out to your department's dedicated Librarian Liaison.
The Library offers a number of on demand tutorials to help you and your students with common questions. Below are a few timely videos for the start of the semester. See a full listing on our Tutorials page.
We welcomes suggestions for purchases of titles and materials that are not currently part of our collection. Requests will be evaluated by subject librarians, based on availability of funds, collection needs, and relevance to the University curriculum.

Please keep in mind that the library does not maintain a collection of textbooks, although we encourage faculty to provide spare copies for our Course Reserves collection or to consider Open Educational Resources (OER) alternatives!
Finding the right OER or zero-cost alternatives to traditional textbooks can be difficult. But using these resources can make a big difference to students by reducing course costs and making materials immediately available. The Cheng Library provides a variety of resources and supports to help you transition to OER and zero-cost options.
We are constantly improving our digital collections, and I've reviewed our list of newly licensed materials to select the following ebook titles that may be of interest to you and your students.
Consider using all or part of our ebooks (every chapter helps!) as alternatives to traditional textbooks to move toward OER/Zero-Cost course materials. Have questions? Let Neil know! Let Tony know!
