The Children of WWII (Grades 4-6): Video

Adrien Sapcaru was a young Jewish boy living with his family in Belgium when the Nazis occupied the country in 1940. In 1942 Adrien was offered refuge by Carl de Brouwer and his family at their home near Ghent.

Life for the 110,000 Japanese-Americans living in internment camps was oddly surreal: they could work, study, pray, even join the military. The one thing they couldn't do was leave.

An examination of the plight of Jewish children in the Holocaust, from the viewpoint of those children—now adults—who survived. The survivors tell of groups of terrified children being caught smuggling food into the Warsaw Ghetto, the intense anti-Semitic air that permeated pre-war Eastern Europe, and most painful of all, their experiences in the concentration camps. With footage of the Warsaw Ghetto, the cattle cars, and Auschwitz, the film awakens us anew to the atrocities these people witnessed and experienced. Narrated by Liv Ullmann. Produced by Joseph S.
