This First Grade Unit can be as long or short as you want it to be and can be altered to fit your classroom needs. It was designed to focus on the Arctic Region and the Arctic Animals and their habitats. The resources and activities within this LibGuide could ultimately take you through the entire winter season and crosses over into many different areas of the curriculum (Math, Science, Social Studies, etc.).
First graders are very excited about the world around them and will find learning about arctic animals very exciting and interesting. The Arctic is a unique part of the world, and the animals that inhabit that region have special adaptations that children will enjoy learning all about. Some common animals to focus on are polar bears, seals, arctic foxes, Arctic Hare and walruses. Within this unit students will be able to identify the different habitats within the Arctic Region as well as identify the many characteristics of Arctic Animals.
