Exploring Informational Texts: Reading and Writing for Real Purposes
This 3 day institute will explore methods that teach and model reading and writing using a wide range of complex informational texts.
The institute also features presentations by several experts in the field such as award winning Young Adult author Tonya Bolden.
Sharon Rawlins of the New Jersey State Library will discuss a variety of Young Adult literature and Yvonne Roux and Ellen Pozzi will present on the use of expository Graphic Novels. Margaret Renn will share creative strategies that engage students in deconstructing, decoding and constructing meaning from informational texts. Marie Donnantuono will demonstrate how to connect Young Adult literature with anchor standards and Michelle Pitot will present reading and writing strategies using mentor texts.
