Music in the Library

If you're looking for music in the library, you'll find it in one of two places:

  • Books/Scores:  2nd Floor
  • CDs/Videos: Media Services

It's always a good idea to find the call number before venturing upstairs, though, as the library has a lot of books and scores to look at.

If you're feeling adventurous, though, and just want to browse through our collection, here's a short guide to the Library of Congress call number ranges to get you started:

  • M: Sheet Music & Scores
    • M5-1480: Instrumental Music
    • M1495-2199: Vocal Music
  • ML: Literature on Music
    • ML159-3785: History and Criticism
    • ML385-429: Biography
    • ML3469-3541: Popular Music
    • ML3790-3792: Music Trade
  • MT: Music Instruction & Study
    • MT5.5-7: Music Theory
    • MT40-67: Improvisation, Accompaniment, Transposition
    • MT85: Conducting
    • MT170-810: Instrumental Techniques
    • MT820-915: Singing and Vocal Technique
    • MT918-948: School Music
    • MT955-956: Musical Theater

As with all web resources, be sure to apply critical evaluation to any online materials that you use.  When in doubt, check with your professor or a librarian for further assistance.
