What this guide contains:

This is a guide to resources for SPED6290: Current Issues in Special Education. Here what you'll:

Finding Books and Media about Education:
While books can be a bit more dense than literature from scholarly journals, they often review a longer period of time and might give you a great overview to begin your research.  Also included in this collection are encyclopedias, handbooks, and dictionaries that can provide concise information about topics.

Finding Articles:
The Library has access to many article databases that make it easy to find articles and (in many cases) access the full-text.  Articles are a great source for finding specific studies related to your topics.  Search for these resources once you have a good understanding of your thesis statement.

Getting Resources:
Not every book or article you discover will be immediately available.  Sometimes it will be a few clicks away, and other times you may need to request it from another library.  Our Interlibrary Loan & Article Copy Service is here to help with those hard to get resources.  Check out this tab to see what options are available.

Citing in APA Format:
In 2019, the American Psychological Association's Publication Manual was updated to the 7th edition.  This includes a number of changes that you'll want to be aware of.  Check out this section to find publications, websites and online tutorials to help you cite correctly.

Writing your Paper:
In addition to the WP Writing Center, this tab lists a number of sources to help with the writing portion of your research.

Resources for Graduate Students:
Check out the great services and resources (including the Graduate Study Room!) that the Library has to offer.

Library Services for Graduate Students

As a graduate student, there are a variety of Library services available to you. This link will introduce you to many of these services.

Here are some highlights:

Graduate students may borrow most print books for one semester. A WPUNJ ID card is required to borrow materials from Cheng Library. If you don't have a WPUNJ ID card you need to go to Hospitality Services, located in the Student Center. The ID Center is open 8:30 to 4:30 Monday through Friday. Check here for their late night hours.

The Graduate Study Room in Library 211 contains individual study carrels and soft seating. All registered WPUNJ graduate students can access by swiping their student IDs.

William Paterson Master's Theses are located in the Reference area on the 1st floor of Cheng Library. More recent William Paterson theses are available through the database, Theses @ The William Paterson University of New Jersey
