"According to the EPA website, Environmental Justice is 'the fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people regardless of race, color, national origin, or income with respect to the development, implementation, and enforcement of environmental laws, regulations, and policies.' Founded in 1990, the EPA's work group on environmental equity seeks to redress a number of inequities, including the fact that some racial groups are exposed to harmful pollutants at alarming rates. "The Climate Literacy and Energy Awareness Network (CLEAN) offers a fine range of educational materials for educators hoping to build their students' 'understanding of the core ideas in climate and energy science.' Visitors can look over the What's New area to learn about updated lesson plans, classroom activities, and featured resources like 'Soil Microbes and Global Warming.' Users shouldn't miss the Browse the Reviewed Educational Resources area. Here they can learn about scientifically and pedagogically reviewed digital resources for teaching about climate science, organized by resource type and grade level. Some of these activities include 'What is the fate of CO2 produced by fossil fuel combustion?' and 'Paleoclimates and Pollen.' Additionally, visitors can sign up to join the CLEAN community and access more webinars and workshops, become a CLEAN reviewer, or learn about new resources as they are released." "The prologue to this fine digital collection crafted by the Library of Congress notes that 'Environmental issues affect everyone on planet Earth - the quality of the water and food we consume, the air we breathe, and the parks we enjoy.' The images included here are meant to complement an ongoing in site exhibit at the Library, and they include images from the famous editorial cartoonist Herblock and well-known photographers like Sam Kittner and Ansel Adams. Visitors can read the About area to get a bit of background on the exhibit and then check out the 'Exhibition Items' area. Here they can view all 39 items, which include dramatic images of environmental degradation and Herblock's witty and poignant India ink drawings which made him famous around the world." "The Center for Ocean Solutions (COS) is located in Monterey, California, and 'works to solve the major problems facing the ocean.' COS was founded by three partners with similar commitments: the Monterey Bay Aquarium, the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute, and the Hopkins Marine Station of Stanford University. On the homepage, visitors can browse through a Featured News area and also look over video clips which explore topics like 'Can Coral Reefs Survive the 21st Century?' Moving on, the materials on the site are divided into six sections, including Research Libraries, Publications, and Videos & Podcasts. Scholars and marine scientists should look over the Publications area to see a list of recent publications by COS researchers and affiliates arranged by topic. Finally, the podcasts are quite good, and they include discussions of dropping ocean oxygen levels and climate change adaptation." [Internet Scout Project]

"Environmental History Resources is a fantastic website, maintained by Dr. Jan Oosthoek, an environmental historian based at the University of Newcastle, that explores how 'environmental changes, often the result of human actions, have caused historical trends.' The website features the award-winning podcast and the podcasts are available for visitors to listen to for the years of 2006 to the present, with the 77th podcast episode posted in June 2017. Visitors will find that each podcast episode has a good written synopsis that accompanies it, including literature cited, websites mentioned, and music featured, when applicable." "The University of California has created a wonderfully informative website with the aim to 'provide leadership and support for scientific research and education in agricultural and food systems that are economically viable, conserve natural resources and biodiversity.' The site is for ranchers and farmers in regard to production and marketing, but is also for the rural and urban communities to better their understanding of the need for and desirability of using and supporting sustainable agricultural practices." "Established in 1980 and funded primarily by the National Science Foundation (NSF), The Long Term Ecological Research Network (LTER) is committed to providing 'scientific expertise, research platforms, and long-term datasets necessary to document and analyze environmental change.' The site is arranged for four broad types of users: Researchers, Educators and Students, Media Professionals, and Decision Makers. Information for researchers includes a link to the LTER data portal and instructions on how to write a data plan for an NSF grant. Similarly, the Educators and Students area links to the LTER Education Digital Library, also a separate site, with a searchable collection of lesson plans." [Internet Scout Project]

"In the 1970s, the newly formed Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) began Documerica, a project to photographically document places in the U.S. affected by air, water, and other forms of industrial pollution. The EPA hired approximately 70 well-known photographers who took pictures of beaches, mountains, urban areas, streets, buildings, and people in numerous National Parks, Lake Tahoe, the Great Lakes, the Alaskan Pipeline, Hawaii, California, Washington D.C., and other locales throughout the United States. By the time the project concluded in 1978, more than 20,000 images had been collected. The National Archives has digitized 15,992 of these photographs (primarily color slides) which may be viewed in the National Archives catalog. Selected images are also available on Flickr. From 2011 to 2013, the EPA ran the State of the Environment Photography Project, and collected another 3,000 photos, also available on Flickr." [Internet Scout Project]
