Scholarly Articles

In your coursework you are expected to use high quality, scholarly sources of information. The following tutorial will help you understand what scholarly sources are.

    This 5-minute, self-paced tutorial will introduce you to the differences between Popular and Scholarly articles.
    Following the lesson, a quiz will test you on your understanding of the material.

  Databases for Education Topics

Here are links and brief descriptions of the Library databases that can be used to find articles about education.

  • ERIC (Educational Resources Information Center
    Indexes both journal articles (EJ) and ERIC documents (ED) related to education.
    "Documents" include books, research and technical reports, dissertations, conference proceedings and other non-journal sources of information.
    ERIC indexes more than 850 education journals. The full-text of most of these resources is available online.
    ERIC is available in two interfaces, EbscoHost or ProQuest. (Same content, different search features) This links to EbscoHost.
  • Proquest Education Journals
    Indexes over 800 education related periodical titles.
    Full text access is available for 650 titles.
  • Google Scholar (not a Library database but...)
    Access Google Scholar from the Library's webpage so it will link you to full-text articles that are available from the Cheng Library.
    Look for the link, Full-Text @ Cheng Library.
    Many other full text resources (books, ERIC documents, etc.) are accessible through Google Scholar.
  • Academic Search Complete
    Large, interdisciplinary full-text database contains over 8,500 full-text publications, including academic journals, magazines, books, and trade publications. Offers broad subject coverage for a variety of disciplines, including anthropology, area studies, ethnic and multicultural studies, and many other fields. Partially funded by the the New Jersey State Library.

Workshops & Programs

The library offers workshops to help students, faculty and staff learn how to research, reference and access library resources from their office or home computer. Library workshops are available throughout the semester, both in the Library and at Valley Road. Check this link for dates, times, and location.
